Back in September I mentioned during one of our Audience Rewards updates that everyone was eligible to get 15 free songs via iTunes as part of a limited time promotion. Well that offer ended back in October, but another one has surfaced, this time for 17 free Broadway shows. Who doesn’t like a Show Tune?
My wife and I are members of the local Broadway series, and this year, when we were given the chance to upgrade to the front row of our section, we sprung and purchased the entire row (4 seats). As part of our Christmas presents (and various other birthdays, etc.), our families were each invited to spend a night with us and share in the culture of the performing arts.
As anyone knows, the music is what can really make or break a good show. In addition, show tunes can really bring back the memories of not only a great performance, but also of any special moments you might have been sharing at the time. To this day, anytime I hear any of the songs from Wicked, or see the beautiful Kristin Chenoweth perform, it reminds me of getting chosen during the lottery to sit in the front row of Wicked on Broadway. As a young, single, straight man, I will openly admit it was my goal that trip to get to see my first ever Broadway show, and it was worth it, even though I was alone and could not convince my college friend to join me.
I had gotten to the ticket office to get my number for the lottery. I then waited for the big moment. Every person chosen was allowed up to 2 tickets for $10 each (I think) and had to be paid in cash on the spot. One-by-one I listened for my number to get drawn, and nothing. After the last number was drawn, I started to walk away. Just then, someone said they only needed one ticket and there was a single seat in the front row available and they asked for volunteers. I willfully raised my hand, and $10 later I was off to sit in the front row to see the acclaimed Wicked, featuring the original cast. In addition to all of the celebrities I have been able to meet over the years in NYC, that Wicked performance was most memorable, and years later when the traveling show came to our city, I splurged and purchased tickets for my entire family to go. Memories!
Ok, get to the point, or rather the free music.

Wow, for a second there I was going to say you were the first person I ever met who actually won a rush lottery on Broadway, but I guess technically you didn’t win. Still, the chance to see the original Wicked cast is priceless. Great score!
