We are still trying to decide what we are going to do on the front and back ends of our Cape Cod trip this summer. We will likely be leaving early on a Saturday morning, and do not need to be in Cape Cod until Monday. So we are trying to find some convienent places to stop and see on the way. Stopping will allow us to break up the long drive, which will allow all of us a chance to stretch our legs.
One options we considered was going to Sesame Place in Pennsylvania. Our two-year old son really likes Sesame Street, and enjoyed the live show we took him to for his birthday. So I was curious and started looking more into going.
Sesame Place looked like the location would work out great as a stopping point since it was conveniently located along our route. Then I was curious about the price to attend, and this was where I about keeled over. The gate price for admission to Sesame Place is $55.99 + tax for a single day weekend admission. Our AAA membership would get us a $3 discount on each ticket. Here is where I thought was the real kicker. Our 2-year old is still $55.99 to get in. Total for us spend a day at Sesame Place would be $158.97 + tax. By comparison, a single day Magic Your Way admission would cost us $174.66 + tax. At least at Disney World our 2-year old is still free, so that price is really only for my wife and I. We do not mind at all spending that kind of money on Disney because we know we get our money’s worth by the amount of entertainment value we get out of it. So I hold the Disney cost as a significant comparison tool in evaluating spending money at other parks. All prices about assume no other discounts.
Considering Sesame Place would approximately cost us the same as Disney, we have pretty much ruled out going. In addition to the price, I do not anticipate actually getting anything from actually going to Sesame Place other than seeing maybe some excitement from my son.
Looking at the Sesame Place map, the majority of the theme park is a waterpark. This again offers no enticement to actually want me to go.
Therefore, unless my wife says we have to go or I can find a great deal on tickets, I think we can find a lot more value for our money on our way to Cape Cod.
