Review: Disney Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

SEVEN DWARFS MINE TRAIN – Having been to Disney World 3 times since 2008, we were fairly excited to try out the new Fantasyland, as well as Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Now that it has been open for several months, any bumps would have been worked out, and potentially, all the massive rush to ride it might be minimized.

Fortunately, once the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was loaded into the FastPass+ system, I was able to get them added to our Magic Bands fairly easy. The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was also designed to be able to let our oldest son (5) and middle son (3) to enjoy it, since they met the 38 inch height requirement. So I was excited to share that moment of a first for all of us with them.

Anytime Disney adds a new attraction to the lineup, it gives me excitement to see what kind of amazing feats the Imagineers have accomplished.

So as our time came to ride, we scanned our Magic Bands and were on our way. Within a matter of moments, we were boarding the mine train, and off we went.

The mine train is not meant to be a super coaster, but a ride the whole family can enjoy. While I was glad we got to ride it, at least for me, I was disappointed. After a short ride you enter the mine, where you get to see the dwarfs working. The animatronics were amazing and really progressed. Although I am not 100% sure I personally am sold on the new idea of video projection faces. It seems to take away from the experience.

You also do not get much of a chance to enjoy and take in the animatronic mine before you are whisked up another hill for the remainder of the ride. Then right before returning to the station, you see a house, with presumably the dwarfs and Snow White inside, though you can not see them. Maybe during the evening the scene is lit to see the characters, but if there was anything inside the house to see during the day, you won’t have much of a chance to experience them. The only animatronic you really get to see is the Wicked Witch, though again you are going by so fast to enter the station, you really do not get much of a glimpse other than to know she is there.

To get a chance at seeing the witch for a couple seconds, it is recommended to sit in the front vehicle.

As for the ride itself, I was excited to experience the swaying design of the mine cars. Though I am not sure I even realized their special design. I am sure where we did notice the design was in the smoothness of the ride itself.

To view the complete ride from the front of the train, please see the video below.

Overall, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was not very impressive considering all the hoopla surrounding it. While the queue, building, and ride themeing were really well done, there just was not enough there to immerse yourself in with the characters.
