I randomly spot checked several of the vendors with evrewards.com to make sure the above cashback options were near the highest return, if not the best current cashback offer out there. As typical for Discover Card, their cashback percentages are at the top for most if not all of the above vendors.

I also spot checked topcashback.com, which rebates to the customer the entire affiliate commission they are paid. Some were lower than Discover, and some were better.

Besides being consistently near the best cashback option, one of the main reasons we love using our Discover More Card for cashback as opposed to others is because the cashback shows up as soon as our next statement. There is no waiting for months for the cash to show up in our account (one of the main reasons I hate using FatWallet).

Is there any cap on how much you can get back with 5-20% cashback retailers. I know 5% cashback is limited to $1500. Also, to get this 5-20% cashback do you have to do shopping on discover shopping mall?

    • @Rajnish: Discover Card does not cap the cashback that can be earned through the Shop Discover portal. To earn the 5-20% cashback though, you need to shop through Discover Card and the Shop Discover portal. So if you want to shop at Home Depot online, you need to sign in to your Discover account, proceed to the Shop Discover section, and then click on Home Depot to be taken to their page.

Thanks for the quick response. I do not have this card yet, thinking of getting this. Can you please tell me if the cash back is available on buying gift cards as well or they are excluded like most other portals? I do not have access to the portal, so can’t check. Also, do you know if this is the new big Discover card which was being discussed on blogs few days ago? Help much appreciated.

        • @Rajnish: Typically, purchasing gift cards is excluded. However, it is up to the Terms and Conditions listed by each individual vendor. Here is the official statement from the Shop Discover program:

“The retailer’s Terms and Conditions provide the details of the offer. For instance, certain brands or product categories may not be included in the offer, or you may not be able to purchase gift cards or certificates. Please read the retailer’s Terms and Conditions before you shop.”

All Discover Cards should have access to Shop Discover. I know both our More and Miles versions have access, although we only see the Back to School bonus program on the More card. I can not say for certain if the new Discover IT card will qualify for the same promotion.

I was told today Sept. 27, 2012 by Discover customer service , that I would NOT receive the extra 5% bonus cash back(nor any bonus for that matter) on an Aug. 7, 2012 purchase I made at Target.com using the Shop Discover link(I registered for it) because Target.com gave me a $20 Target gift card with purchase. I was told this $20 gift card voids out the extra 5% bonus or any bonus at all!No where does this say this on any promotional ad! I wrote a letter in dispute to Discover not sure what that will get me! I have been a Discover card member since 1995 and this promotion brought me back as a card user, now I may be canceling my credit card!I wish I was told about the terms and conditions when I called Discover to confirm this promotion before I ordered online. The charge has already been completely paid.

    • @Sandi: Wow, I have never heard of that before, and I’ve seen some pretty strange things happen with Shop Discover. Sorry for your bad experience. I would definitely keep contacting them to get to the bottom of it.
