National Train Day (May 7, 2011) Nationwide Free Events and Triple Amtrak Rewards

May 7, 2011 is National Train Day, and the website lists tons of free activities to do all around the country.

Locations such as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia will host major celebrations, but other local cities all across the Nation will also sponsor events. Please note that I did see several events that are as early as this coming weekend, so check the list for details.

In addition, if you look at the Promotions page you can earn up to triple Amtrak Guest Rewards for travel between May 7 and May 21, 2011; earn double points up until May 6, 2011. The great thing about Amtrak Guest Rewards is they can easily be redeemed for airline miles at a ratio of 1:1 per the Amtrak Guest Rewards site. Currently, 5,000 Amtrak points can be redeemed for 5,000 Continental OnePass miles or 10,000 Hilton HHonors points.

A friend of my sister, told her there was a free Amtrak day on May 2, 2013. (go anywhere for free on the one day.) Is that true? I looked all over your site, and could not find anything. Could you tell me if you have a free day? Thanks,

    Alan

    • @Alan: You are correct in that the 2013 Train Day is fast approaching, and we already have a post lined up with more information as we get closer to the date. While there are lots of train related events across the country, and some “may” involve train rides, we are not aware of any large campaign by Amtrak for free rides for everyone.
