Visiting Choo Choo Barn for the Holidays

One aspect I was rather excited to reminisce on our recent Thanksgiving travels was visiting the Choo Choo Barn. My father, who has always been a major train aficionado, took us all over the country as kids to see various horseless carriage attractions. I specifically remember visiting the Choo Choo Barn as a child because I purchased a collection of their postcards, which I still have in a box. So having the chance to share the Choo Choo Barn, with our train loving gentlemen, was a must-see attraction.

The Choo Choo Barn is located at 226 Gap Rd, in Strasburg, PA 17579. The layout features over 1,700 square feet of O gauge trains aside animated scenes throughout. Every year the company adds new scenes and details, and we were fortunate to get to see the Christmas layout.

Throughout the display, the wreathes were hung and the Santas were hidden. Did you find all 52 St. Nicks?

Please find below a collection of photos and videos that we captured during our recent visit. Which is your favorite?

The house seen above is a recreation of the owners original homestead. Every year at the holidays they constructed a Christmas tree that appeared to extend through the roof.

On Fridays during the holidays, the Choo Choo Barn offers free admission to those who bring a food item to be donated to charity. Our family had specifically brought an assortment of goods from home, only to find out that the holiday Friday hours did not start until the week after Thanksgiving.

My personal favorite scene from the Choo Choo Barn was the house fire, where the fire department then visits the scene, and sprays the home with real water to extinguish the “flames.”

In addition, the water features throughout the layout are real water, which the only other time we saw such an impressive feat was at Entrainment Junction.

The many hours and history of the train layout at the Choo Choo Barn was apparent and well worth our time. After taking two “laps” around the facility, I am sure there are still plenty of other details that were overlooked with the impressive layout.
