Discrepancy Between Disney’s Captain Hook Left and Right Hands

This past weekend we celebrated Land-Shark’s 2nd birthday, and his uncle got him Disney’s Peter Pan on Blu-Ray disk. The boys had yet to see it, and watched it intently. However, being the Disney aficionados that my wife and I am, I noticed something at the beginning of the movie, that started to make me wonder about how it related to the Peter Pan ride at Disneyland and Disney World.

During the first scene where Michael and John are pretending to be Captain Hook and sword fighting, Wendy tells John that Captain Hooks “hook” is supposed to be on the left hand. Sure enough, during the first appearance of Captain Hook with the pirates, the hook is indeed the left hand. So I started to investigate.

First, I decided to take a look at the Peter Pan ride pictures I took at Disneyland last summer. On the mural, upon entering the flying ships, one can see Captain Hook, standing in a boat with Mr. Smee and Tiger Lily, and the Captain is holding a looking glass in his right hand, indicative that the hook is on his left hand, which matches the movie.

So then I started to watch our video of the Peter Pan ride at Disneyland, as well as other videos of the Disney World version, to see if everything was still consistent. At the 1:40 mark of our video, we see Peter Pan sword fighting with Captain Hook. Notice anything else?

Captain Hook is portrayed with a sword in his left hand, and this time the hook is on his right hand at both the Disneyland and Disney World versions of the Peter Pan’s Flight ride.

Fast forward to the 1:58 mark of our video, and we see Captain Hook fighting for his life from the alligator. Again, in this scene, there Captain Hooks “hook” is on his right hand at Disneyland. Yet the Disney World version has the correct portrayal of Captain Hook with the hook on his left hand.

For once, a Disney detail was overlooked, and it is quite interesting to us to see the differences. Know of any other differences between the movie and the rides?
