There are several great camping and outdoors promotions coming up that everyone should consider.
Free Camping Day 2013
On behalf of Glorified Camping (A Luxury Camping/Glamping site), the State of Ohio has created a Free Camping Day, where guests can camp for free at 54 different State Parks around Ohio. While I think it is terrific to see the State encouraging everyone to get out and see the State Park system, it is too bad they elected to promote free camping on a Thursday.
I assume the hope is that they can encourage people to show up for free on Thursday, and then stay over for the weekend. I am sure there will be lots of people that do that; however, it seems like most things government funded, the date was poorly selected.
I can not justify encouraging families to pull their kids out of school for the sake of a free camping night.
National Park Week
Saturday, April 20 through Sunday, April 28, 2013, is National Park Week. Every year this ends of being a great promotion, encouraging families to get out and see our beautiful natural wonders. Monday-Friday of National Park Week will offer free admission for everyone.
In addition, “on April 20, National Junior Ranger Day, parks will invite young visitors to ‘explore, learn, protect’ and be sworn in as Junior Rangers. April 27 is Volunteer Day, so if you want to roll up your sleeves and pitch in with a project, look for a park where you can help out.”
Great American Backyard Campout
On June 22, 2013, there is a new national campaign by the National Wildlife Foundation (NWF), encouraging people to camp out in their backyard to help connect your kids with nature. I just have to say I find it funny that the site promotes this as a free event. Umm, of course it is free to camp in your own backyard.
In reality, the event is a fundraiser for the NWF, encouraging those that participate to make a donation/fundraiser for the organization.
I really like the idea of everyone camping out at the same time, and may present the idea to our development to see if others are interested in having a fun campout event for the neighborhood. Sounds like a fun event.
