According to Men’s Health Magazine, the average family of four expected to spend $4,000 on a summer vacation. That statistic seems really high to me, considering that is the average. Men’s Health must have really surveyed the above average man. That works out to over $571/day assuming a standard 7-day vacation.

Looking back at 2011, our vacations have averaged as follows:

Detroit, MI– $172.58/day
Cape Cod– $187.37/day
Finger Lakes– $252.13/day

Now keep in mind, we also typically try to drive to our destinations since it is a lot easier to get from point A to B with our kids and all of their belongings.
