Happy second half of 2013! The summer travel season is upon us, which means lots of us are spending money to fill up our vehicles and travel to far off lands.

The easiest way to save some money this summer on gasoline purchases is by using a credit card that earns up to 5% cashback. From July through September 2013, Discover card [affiliate link] is offering 5% cashback on up to $1,500 in gasoline purchases.

One must sign into their Discover card account and register for the promotion.

* Sign up to earn 5% Cashback Bonus for gas (at stand alone gas stations) from 7/1/13 (or the date on which you sign up, whichever is later) through 9/30/13, subject to a cap of $1500 in purchases. These purchases must be made by 9/30/13 and do not count towards determining your eligibility to earn 1%. Purchases made at warehouse clubs, wholesale distributors, and discount stores are not eligible. Purchases made using Near Field Communication (NFC), virtual wallets, or similar technology may not be eligible. If a purchase is coded for a category other than listed above, it will not qualify. DISCOVER CARD EUROPE – Discover Card is making a big push for their acceptance around the globe. We have already seen them offer additional cashback bonuses just for visiting Mexico and the Caribbean. Now, Discover is offering those traveling to Europe from June 1 to September 30, 2013 the chance to earn 2% cashback.

As typical, the promotion is capped at purchases up to $1,000, and this time, it is even restricted to select European states (see terms below).

You need to call to register, which is a good thing to warn Discover of your traveling to another country and to avoid the card getting locked.

Also, in case you were wondering, Discover Card does not charge any foreign transaction fees when traveling abroad, making your money work for you with the currency exchange.
