TD BANK SUMMER READING PROGRAM – The offer below is back for 2014 and is valid June 1 through August 31, 2014. (Note: The terms at the bottom still have the 2013 information, but we have been advised it will get updated with the 2014 dates and is valid for this year)
I love the idea of teaching children at a young age the value of money management. One of my biggest regrets about going to school, both in High School and in College, was that I did not take a money management class. Honestly, taking a class was not even an option at our High School. That is why I love the new program from TD Bank, even though it is just a minor step towards education.
The program is nice and simple. Read 10 books this summer, fill out a form and take it to your local TD Bank branch office, and they will deposit $10 into your child’s account.
We were also provided with a copy of the 2014 Summer Reading brochure, which is a nice little worksheet.
Unfortunately, we do not live anywhere there is a local branch office, so we will not be able to partake in this offer. However, I was curious what the current interest rates were for the Young Savers account, which is currently listed as 0.05% APY.
I asked my representative if I could even open an account over the phone or internet, and here is what I was told. If I was an existing TD Bank account holder, I could open up a new Young Savers account; however, if you are not an existing member, you need to open an account in person at a local branch office.
