Amazon 2% Cashback & Double Miles Promotion via Discover Card

Last night when I logged into my Discover More and Discover Miles card accounts, I received a notice that Discover is now offering double cash back (2%) and double miles at Amazon on up to $250 in purchases. Unfortunately, one has to be signed into their account to see the offer, so I do not have a link to share at this time.

Discover More Card Terms:

Earn 2% Cashback Bonus® on purchases made at Amazon.com subject to a cap of $250 in purchases this billing period; purchases in excess of $250 will continue to automatically earn up to 1% unlimited Cashback Bonus. If
a purchase is coded for a merchant other than Amazon.com it will not qualify. Purchases earning 2% Cashback Bonus will not count toward your total annual purchases to determine your tier level. Allow up to 5 weeks for this reward to be added to your Cashback Bonus account. Discover® More®, Discover® Open Road® and Discover® MotivaSM cardmembers are eligible to participate in this program. See Cashback Bonus Program Terms and Conditions for further details.

Discover Miles Card Terms:

Miles by Discover® cardmembers earn 2 Miles for every $1 in purchases made at Amazon.com subject to a cap of $250 in purchases this billing period; purchases in excess of $250 will continue to automatically earn 1 Mile per dollar. EscapeSM by Discover® cardmembers earn 4 Miles for every $1 in purchases made at Amazon.com subject to a cap of $250 in purchases this billing period; purchases in excess of $250 will continue to automatically earn 2 Miles per dollar. If a purchase is coded for a merchant other than Amazon.com, it will not qualify. Allow up to 5 weeks for this reward to be added to your Miles account.

While it does not state any linking requirements, it is recommended to link to Amazon through Discover Card, as well as use your Discover Card to ensure easy cash back/miles.

While you are logged into your account(s), make sure you sign up for the October-December 5% cash back/double miles categories which includes restaurants, department stores, and clothing stores on up to $300 in purchases.

Lastly, even though I already hit my monthly maximum for sending money a couple days ago via Discover Card Money Messenger/Paypal, today was the start of a new calendar month, and the system let me send money to earn cash back and miles. When I talked with Discover back in May, they told me the time frame was maxed at a month from the last time I sent money; however, it does not appear to still be the case. The Money Messenger program is only showing currently on both my two cards, and for some reason it disappeared from my wife’s account. Still it is an easy way to earn free cash back/miles as well as easily meeting the tiered spend to make sure we earn the maximum rewards.

  1. @Rajnish: Yes, the Shop Discover program is reserved exclusively for Discover Card members. Therefore, you will have to use your Discover Card to receive the cash back, miles, etc.

  2. Just some more ideas for saving with Amazon:
This month you can get 5% cashback with Amazon by using the Chase Freedom Card. You can also go through the Hawaiin Airlines shopping portal for 1 mile per dollar with them. OR Open an affiliate account and have your friends click through your link when purchasing for 4% cashback. I will be doing this with a friend. I will be using their affiliate link and they will be using mine.

    1. Thanks for the suggestion. We do not currently have the Chase Freedom cards, but they are on my radar for a possible future round of new cards.
