Southwest Airlines is running a promotion until October 31, 2011, where you can earn bonus Rapid Rewards points for purchase of Marriott gift cards.
Details of the program can be seen on this page on https://www.marriottvacationcardoffer.com/southwest Marriott’s vacation website. After entering in your Rapid Rewards number, the site prompts you whether you would like to purchase the following increments of gift cards:
- Get 1,200 points with a $100 Marriott Gift Card purchase
- Get 3,000 points with a $250 Marriott Gift Card purchase
- Get 6,000 points with a $500 Marriott Gift Card purchase
Other than that, the terms are pretty straight forward. You use the gift cards as payment towards your bill at any Marriott property. In addition, you will receive points for your stay by using the gift cards.
$1,000 in gift cards should easily cover at least most, if not all of a higher end property for a week’s vacation. Throw in you will earn 12,000 Rapid Rewards points, and you just earned yourself a nice bonus towards future flight redemption. The 12,000 Rapid Rewards points will earn you at least $200 in Wanna Get Away fares.
Do you see it as worthwhile to buy and resale the card just for the points?
Excellent question, which I will try to respond to in a new post this week, since I think it’s worthy of a full analysis.
Great, looking forward to it. Have a couple of SW flights coming up so this will give an added boost to that free flight.
