Additional Money Save Tips

As a seasoned visitor to Cedar Point, our family knows a thing or two when it comes to saving some money for a family of five when visiting the parks. Fortunately, Cedar Fair, the sister company to Cedar Point, Kings Island, Valley Fair, and many other parks, added some great dining benefits that are worth considering.

  • Souvenir Drink Cups- Staying hydrated throughout your visit is super important. With the hustle and bustle of going ride to ride, drinking can also be overlooked. Guests who purchase their souvenir drink cups (cheapest option is to buy them online for $9.99) can refill them all day long. If it is your first visit with the cup, refills are free all day. Otherwise, if you are a returning visitor, simply pay $0.99 per refill, or reactivate the cup for approximately $5 for the day.

Our family keeps our cup full all day, ensuring happy kids and hydrated parents.

  • Meal Plans- For a family visiting the parks, the all-day meal plans are a tremendous value. The Kings Island plan costs $29.99 and the Valley Fair all-day meal plan costs $25.99. The plans give you various entrees and sides around the park once every 90 minutes.

Fortunately for families, they can share meals. Since our kids are still small, we are able to get a meal, and typically let the kids eat first. Then 90 minutes later we get another meal for my wife and I to share. This ensures no one overeats, but stays full throughout the day. When individual meals cost around $15+ each, eat just two times in the park and you come out ahead.

  • Bring sun screen from home and apply often.

Remember, this ticket promotion ends today at midnight. So plan ahead and save a bundle for your family.

140614 Disney Pirate & Pals Firework Voyage

Review: Disney Pirates & Pals Firework Voyage

DISNEY PIRATES & PALS FIREWORK VOYAGE – Living the life of a swashbuckling pirate is a tough gig. With three little captains trying to steer this family, you never know who might be asked to walk the plank. So when my father-in-law came on board the ship, things really got sticky as we set off to find the hidden treasure holding the secret to the fountain of youth. After all, my father-in-law was celebrating 60 years at sea.

Prior to setting sail, our family unit encountered the skeleton crew…

A pirate can never set sail on an empty stomach, so we dine on fresh assorted cold beverages…

As well as some warm beverages to sooth the soul.

But the real treasure was the chests filled with popcorn, pretzels, fresh fruit, and chocolate gold coins.

Not to mention the cove of cotton candy…

Not to mention the freezer filled with favorite frozen treats.

Before setting sail on our adventure, we had the misfortune of running into the evil Captain Hook and Mr. Smee. With full bellies, our sword fight with the famous captain was hampered, but fortunately, we managed to throw a smelly cod fish or two and get away in time for our cruise.

Once on-board our boat, we left the mainland behind.

Shortly thereafter, we encountered some ocean creatures blocking our paths. Call in the reinforcements (the lost boys)!

Along of cruise out to see, our ship captain entertained the crew with games and jokes. Within a short while, we started to see our target, and anchored at a safe distance to prepare for battle.

Before we knew it, the night sky was ablaze with bombs. Amid the explosions of cannons, you could hear music piped into the boat, trying to keep the moral of the crew high.

The battle was fought, and are ship survived, sending Captain Hook and Mr. Smee away while being chased by Tick Tock. As the boat returned to land, we realized this battle was not fought alone, as Peter Pan had our back.

Overall, our family really enjoyed the Pirate and Pal’s Firework Voyage. The view of the fireworks show was fantastic, without the need to hustle for the perfect spot or deal with crowds trying to get out of the park. The entertainment (i.e. our ships pirate leader) was amazing! Super funny, high energy, and great at interacting with the crowd. Prior to getting access to the dessert party, it was nice having activities to do with the kids, including a scavenger hunt from things located around the Contemporary Resort. After we departed the ship, kids all got a gift to take home with them, with varying different pirate themed options.

My one complaint was I was personally rather disappointed in the dessert aspect. Disney is known for superb dining breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everywhere in between. While we knew what was on the menu before going, I would of liked to see some spectacular desserts like around the rest of Disney.

Both sheet cakes were ok, but nothing spectacular. I elected to go with a Minute Maid frozen lemonade, but looking back, wish I would have gone with the Mickey ice cream sandwiches.

The nice thing about the dessert buffet though was you were free to take as little or as much as you wanted.

Overall, we think my father-in-law really enjoyed the pirate experience with his boys.

Adult ticket prices are $59 and children are $34. It is recommended to make advanced reservations if you want to partake in this journey, as our night filled two boats.

I am also unsure what they do if it rains. During our visit, it was rainy during the day/evening, and we were unsure what would happen should the skies open up. Fortunately, the clouds moved away long enough to get our voyage in.

140613 Magic Kingdom Castle

Best Disney Magic Kingdom Dinner

Disney’s Magic Kingdom is relatively limited when it comes to sit-down restaurants. Our family eats together every night, and eating quick service, especially after a long day in the park and already doing so for lunch, is not something we prefer to do. So we elected to make advanced dining reservations at Liberty Tree Tavern with our friends.

The meal started out with a tossed mixed greens salad with house-made dressing. When traveling, it can be hard to eat your fair share of fruits and vegetables. At this point in the vacation, after eating out for over a week, a salad sounded great.

The Liberty Tree salad really hit the spot, and was fantastic. Both my wife and I really only wanted to eat the salad, it was that good, but knew there were more courses to come.

The main dinner is served family style with roasted turkey breast, carved beef and sliced pork with mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, herb bread stuffing, and macaroni & cheese.

The meats were all wonderfully smoked and tendered. The Thanksgiving style side dishes were way better than your momma makes. Even the basic mac & cheese was outstanding.

The meal was topped off with tavern-made white cake filled with apples and Craisins® dried cranberries, topped with ice cream. Why could part of the meal just been ok, because we stuffed ourselves silly with the amazing meal. Then Disney goes and tops it off with a great, large dessert.

Honestly, I was really looking forward to the dessert after seeing it served at another table. However, it was good, but not nearly as good as the rest of the meal. Dessert actually made me craving more of the smoked meats and accompaniments.

Dining for dinner at Liberty Tree was by far the best meal we ate within the Magic Kingdom. Even better, was as we were getting done with dinner, the Main Street Electrical Parade was just starting to pass by. Fortunately, our stroller parking ended up being a perfect location to enjoy the show.
