I did not write about this promotion because I was not quite sold that everything would work out in the end. Southwest Airlines and the State of Florida Tourism industry teamed up to offer a free $25 Southwest Airlines discount code if you signed up for their college school contest and shared the information with friends.

1) Go to visitflorida.com/share
2) Vote for one of the selected schools.
3) Include both your email address and a “friends” email address. In other words, use two email addresses that you have access to as only the friend will receive a free $25 Southwest code.

Then wait about a week for the email with the unique discount code.

Terms of the code:

Use this code to book a roundtrip Wanna Get Away fare on southwest.com and receive $25 off. Purchase must be made between September 1, 2011 and November 30, 2011 for travel between September 8, 2011 and January 30, 2012.

According to this thread on FatWallet, even though the discount code is supposed to be used towards travel to Florida, I am almost certain the code can be used towards any flight. Also, the code can be used for up to eight (8) people in the same reservation, potentially saving the user up to $200.

UPDATE: Congratulations to David, who correctly linked to the article where I was able to get my in-laws to the Big Easy by taking advantage of the great sale that was offered by Southwest a couple weeks ago!
