The new Disney Fantasyland opened within the past year, and during our families recent trip to the area, we were excited to finally get to see it. In order to save a little bit of money, our family elected to have lunch at the new Beauty and the Beast Be Our Guest restaurant.
Lunch is served quick service, where you order from a touch screen, and your meal is brought to your table. If you elect to eat dinner at Be Our Guest, your meal is served full table service.
The theming of the restaurant was great! It felt like you were entering the Beast’s castle and going into his secret world. After ordering your meal from touchscreen displays, you were given a rose buzzer to take to your table so the staff knew where to deliver your food.
Be Our Guest features three dining rooms
- The West Wing – featuring the enchanted rose
- The Rose Gallery – available during lunch period only
- The Ballroom
During lunch, we were free to sit where we wanted, and choose to eat in the west wing. We had the table directly in front of the enchanted rose, which was a pretty cool visual. Also in the room was a torn picture above the fireplace of the Prince. Be sure to keep an eye out, because in the blink of an eye you might see a glimpse of the Beast.
Both my wife and I decided to order the Carved Prime Chuck Roast Beef Sandwich, served warm on a Baguette with Horseradish Sour Cream and Pommes Frites ($12.49).
The meal was a real disappointment for both of us. The roast beef was really tough and gristly, making for a difficult sandwich to eat and enjoy. Even if the meat had been better, there was really no distinct feature of the sandwich they made us say wow. For Disney standards, it was rather…standard with nothing special. The Pommes Frites were ok, but again, I would have expected there to be something on them to make them stand apart from a standard fry.
For the kids, we ordered them the Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup ($8.49). While I did not try any of it, they really enjoyed it.
We also choose to order a selection of the desserts to share among us. While the desserts were good, they again left no spectacular taste that made us need to have them again. In addition, the cupcakes were the standard size. For over $4 a piece, I would have liked to see them a larger portion.
Overall, I was glad we were able to experience the new Disney Fantasyland and the Be Our Guest restaurant. However, short of returning for a sit down dinner in the future, I see no reason to need to return there for lunch again unless the Beast elects to release the better food from his kitchen.
