In the past I have taken some time and evaluated whether it was worth it or not to switch natural gas providers during their promotions where they offer airlines miles in return for a fixed price contract. When I looked at the promotion back in December 2012, I really was not convinced it was worth the switch.
This week I learned that Ohio Natural Gas was running a 20,000 Delta Skymiles promotion. The offer ends October 31, 2014, giving us little time to make a decision on switching. However, I often find not having to stew over something often results in the greatest satisfaction.
The Ohio Natural Gas promotion offered both a 6 month and 12 month contract at a fixed rate of $0.619 /Ccf and $0.649 /Ccf, respectively, upon switching from my existing supplier, Columbia Gas of Ohio.
So I called up Columbia Gas, and it turns out I currently am in a fixed rate guarantee through my existing conglomerate and pay approximately ~$0.60 Ccf.
Turn out, it will cost our family approximately $2 extra per month on average should we switch to the Ohio Natural Gas.
Granted, 20,000 Delta Skymiles are not the most lucrative of rewards, but it will pad our balances towards a future vacation, making it well worth the 6 month contract.
Per the terms of the promotion, “10,000 bonus miles will be awarded after 30 days of continuous active gas service with ONG and remaining 10,000 bonus miles will be awarded after an additional 6 months of continuous gas service with ONG following the initial award.”
Have you made the switch of gas suppliers just to earn miles?
