Free National Park Admission During Park Week (April 21-29, 2012)

NPS Logo

We have written about getting free admission to the National Park service at various times over the past year including last year’s National Park Week and Free Entrance Days. This year during April 21-29, all 397 National Parks will offer free admission during Park Week.

The start of National Park week kicks off with Volunteer Day. Work may include working at a Visitor Center answering guests questions, repairing trails, or serving on a beach patrol. This could be a potentially great volunteer experience for families. Volunteer applications are available on the National Park Service website.

In addition to free park admission all week, several sites across the U.S. are offering special promotions such as discounts, freebies, special events, free food, or buy one, get one mini-golf admissions.

Finally, on April 28, kids interested in exploring a possible future career with the National Park Service can attend National Junior Ranger Day. From what I can tell, it sounds like a lot of fun trying to prevent Yogi Bear from getting guests picnic baskets.

Do not worry if you can not make any of the events, as June 9, 2012 will be the next free admission day.

Permanent Disability Lifetime Park Passes

This is a quick reminder too, if you are disabled with a permanent disability, the USGS America the Beautiful program is offering free lifetime access passes to the National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands.

The website lists the various forms of identification required to prove a disability. The pass will grant you and your family into the more than 2,000 recreation sites managed by five Federal agencies.

This would be great for those long road trips across the country to really get to see and experience the beauty this country beholds.
