Discover Bank Savings Account Exclusive Offer for BJ’s Members

I found this old article and decided to update it with some of the latest information.

As I have talked about in the past, we have a love/hate relationship with Costco. We used to be located about 20 minutes away from one of the various Costco locations around our home; however, we are now located within 5 minutes of both a Costco and BJ’s now in our town. So this deal with BJ’s sparked my interest.

I have been watching the Discover Card bank accounts for a while only because they pay pretty decent interest. However, this deal for BJ’s shopping members is better than the normal offer. Currently the online savings account is paying 0.80% APY for all balances. In addition, new accounts earn BJ’s gift cards based on your level of membership:

BJ’s Reward Members: Receive a $75 BJ’s Gift Card*
BJ’s Inner Circle Members: Receive a $25 BJ’s Gift Card*

There is a minimum $1,500 minimum deposit and balance requirement for 90 days with the online savings account; $2,500 for the CDs to receive the giftcard bonus.

The following additional rates are also being offered:
Money Market- 0.70%
CD Account (5 year)- 1.75%
IRA CD Account (10 year)- 2.10%

I think I am going to have to go dig out the free 60 day membership we received in the mail and see if we can take advantage of this offer.

Trick-or-Treat Camping Style at East Harbor State Park

In honor of Halloween, today I want to share a fun family experience we got to do a couple weeks ago. My parents are the owner of an Airstream trailer and spent a good deal of their weekends in the later part of summer at various campgrounds. However, their favorite location is East Harbor State Park, located along the shores of Lake Erie.

After Labor Day, campgrounds across the U.S. turn into ghost-towns; however, for two weekends in October, floods of campers head back to East Harbor for the annual trick-or-treat event. We were fortunate to be able to reschedule our weekend a couple weeks ago, to head up with my parents.

The early part of the afternoon was filled with activities for the kids along with prizes. Then between 4:30-6:00, the roads were shut down and hundreds of kids flooded the drives to collect their loot. Little did I know, campers take Halloween seriously. Hundreds of camp sites were decorated with incredible Halloween decor.

The best part about the whole experience was not only the decorations but that the camp sites are only a couple feet apart, making the experience perfect for little feet.

So the point of this post is to consider taking the kids to a location out of the ordinary to experience trick-or-treat if you are unable to in your neighborhood. We had no idea trick-or-treating at a campground even existed, outside of Disney of course.

Discover Fan Loyalty Evaluates Football Superstitions

When you travel, do you have any superstitions or rituals that you need to go through? when you travel to a hotel, have you noticed how typically the 13th floor is omitted? Either personally or as a society, whether we want to admit it or not, we all believe in superstitions in some way.

So Discover Card (Facebook/Twitter) recently asked college football fans whether they have superstitions or rituals that they use in the hopes of bringing their team a victory.

The new Discover Fan Loyalty Poll results uncovered only 12 percent of college football fans believe that their game day rituals or superstitions play a part in helping their teams win. Of that 12 percent, 58 percent said they have shared their superstitions with family and friends, while 37 percent prefer to keep it to themselves.

The additional stats show how conferences differ in their feelings about superstitions and rituals:

· PAC 12: 15 percent
· ACC: 14 percent
· Big Ten: 13 percent
· SEC: 10 percent
· Big 12: 10 percent
· Big East: 7 percent
· Independents: 2 percent
· Not sure: 14%

This week’s fan rankings of the top college football teams are as follows:

· Alabama, 48 percent
· Florida, 9 percent
· Oregon, 7 percent
· Notre Dame, 7 percent
· Kansas State, 6 percent
· LSU, 1 percent
· Oregon State, 1 percent
· Oklahoma, 1 percent
· Some other team, 10 percent
· Not sure, 10 percent
