Hidden Inside a Cardboard Box is Your Inspiration

I had a different post entirely planned for today, until yesterday when my entire day was re-inspired! I was caught off guard by a video that MyMoneyBlog had posted on Twitter, titled Caine’s Arcade. See what you think.

Now how do you feel?

Today’s post is not about saving money. Nor is it about a great deal, or ways you can earn easy miles. I am not going to tell you about my family, or some great travel adventure. Instead I want to inspire you for the weekend.

Caine’s Arcade speaks for itself in that a young boy built an arcade out of boxes in his father’s auto parts store in Los Angeles. Despite no customers, Caine worked hard towards creating his vision and games. A mind-blowing aspect of the story is to see the resourcefulness of how Caine took his ideas and engineered the concepts out of cardboard boxes and into arcade games. By the time the video gets to the scene of Caine creating a claw machine, I was beyond impressed with Caine’s vision to create his own version of the game.

The tremendous encouragement by not only his father, but also the first customer, Nirvan, was heartfelt and moving. Both mentors helps nourish the child’s creative talents, and encouraged him to experiment and learn. The father never told the son to quit making a mess out of the store. Instead he encouraged him to develop his ideas.

After watching the video, I could not imagine going to the store and not giving the kid a couple of bucks to encourage his dream. After all, for $2 you can get a Fun Pass valid for 500 plays. How can that not make you laugh and happy inside?

When word of the flash mob spread viral, and tons of people showed up to surprise Caine, the look on his face made my eyes well up with tears. A simple act of kindness on the part of a stranger gave Caine the encouragement to go after his dreams.

So as we go into another weekend, I encourage everyone to go out and encourage someone to follow their dreams. It could be your own kids desire to try surfing, or to learn a new language, or to go see something. What could even be more impactful would be to go up to some stranger and encourage them to follow their dreams. Everyone can do their part to make Caine’s dream become a reality for someone else by giving them a little bit of love and encouragement.

  1. Great story! Reminded me of my brother – he used to take things apart all the time and couldn’t put them back together. Eventually he became an engineer.

  2. That’s really cool. My sister and I used to do that when we were young. We’d run full carnivals in our front yard, and it was a blast. Nice to see all the support that Cain got for his arcade.
