WestJet Kargo Kids Program- Child Free Cabins and 10% Discount

Well everyone finally got their wish over the weekend, as the first airline officially announced a child free cabin program. No more crying kids or dealing with families that can no longer handle their children despite stressful times. The public has spoken and the airline industry is responding.

Per WestJet:

WestJet today introduced Kargo Kids, an exciting new program allowing guests to travel on select child-free flights, creating a quieter and more relaxing inflight experience, while children travel in a “special VIP” area of the aircraft.

“As Canada’s low-cost airline, we are constantly looking for innovative and fun ways to enhance the guest experience,” continued Richard Bartrem. “The initial feedback on Kargo Kids has been quite positive and we’re looking forward to the peace and quiet while we get families where they need to be.”

So thanks for the outcry childless travelers, as WestJet has made the “fool” in all of us.

Just my 2 cents, but I’m betting that this is not just because other passengers are complaining. There are a lot of facilities now offering a children’s section (restaurants, cruises, heck even Club Med has a similar program). As a parent of 3 girls (all of whom I’ve travelled with when they were little), absolutely nothing sounds better to me than letting them sit in a “VIP Section” of the plane with other kids where they probably have something to do. That would sure beat having them sit beside me, or in my lap, and be bored to tears and wailing because of it.

In fact, if a transcon carrier offered this feature, I’d probably buy more tickets. My 3-year-old hasn’t been overseas strictly because I don’t want to deal with the hassle on a long-haul flight.

Props to WestJet. May more carriers follow your lead!

@David: Come to think of it, that would be a fantastic idea to have a dedicated area on the plane to take kids, as long as it was not in the luggage compartment.
