Up to 5,000 Hilton HHonors Points for Going Mobile
In an effort to drum up Hilton’s mobile business, HHonors has teamed up with eligible Visa cards to offer 1,000 bonus points just for signing up your mobile device to receive texts, and an additional 4,000 points when you spend $100 on the registered Visa card at a Hilton property between January 20 and June 30, 2012.
1) Head to the official www.visa.com/HiltonHHonors Visa Hilton promo page.
2) After entering your information and accepting the various terms and conditions, you will receive a text message with a 3 digit code to confirm your enrollment in the program. After entering in the code, I received a message that said the 1,000 bonus points will be entered into my account within 6 weeks. Note, several people have tried using their Google Voice accounts to register for this promotion, and they did not work. Therefore, you will have to use your actual mobile number to register.
3) After the points have been awarded, one might want to opt-out to receive further text messages. The following are acceptable methods for opting out:
- sending a text message with the words “STOP” to the Program short code 43471 (or such other short code that may be used in the future – we will send a text message notification if the short code changes);
- sending “STOP” to any text message you may receive from this Program;
- using the opt-out mechanism contained in Program email; or
- using the opt-out link at the Program Website.
4) I have also set up an experiment with this promotion that you might want to consider. Sometimes my experiments, like the Gilt promotion, really pay off in the end, so pay attention.
We have one HHonors account for our family, registered in my name. We also each have old United Visa cards that I found in the safe, ironically our only Visa cards I just come to realize with this promotion. In addition, we have unlimited texting in our family plan, so it is a no-brainer to at least sign up for the promo until the points post. So there in lies an opportunity to double tap the promotion. I have gone to the effort of registering my wife for the promotion using a separate email address and her mobile number, but using the same HHonors account number.
I have no idea what the outcome will be (i.e. will we get the promotion twice), but it does not cost me anything to at least try. I do not think we will be taking advantage of the extra 4,000 points for $100 spend on each account, so at this point I am only looking to maximize the free points. Sure, I could just go and open a new HHonors account for my wife, but I currently see no point in having separate accounts.
Terms, Blah, Blah, Blah
If there is one thing I have learned over the past year, it is that these companies can not always be trusted with the promos, and we as the consumer, need to be very diligent of capturing all terms and conditions before they are changed. Therefore, I recommend making a copy of the terms for your file just in case. I was going to add it all to the post, but it becomes a giant wall of text.
Since drafting this post the other day, and since I do not typically post on the weekend, there are some other references that have also discussed this promotion on View From the Wing and The Points Guy.
